Rain, Traffic and Quick Clicks

Cameron Highlands, located in the heart of Malaysia, is known for its lush tea plantations, beautiful landscapes, and a perfect escape from city life. Recently, I was hoping to capture the beauty of the highlands with my camera. Little did I know that Mother Nature had a different plan for my visit. Rain and traffic jams became the unwelcome companions of my journey.

Day 1: My trip began with high hopes, but as I reached Cameron Highlands, I was greeted by relentless rain. The downpour seemed to have no intention of letting up, and the gloomy weather cast a shadow over my photography plans. Even though I had prepared for this possibility with waterproof gear, it was still disheartening.

Day 2-4: With increased rainfall, the weekend brought a traffic nightmare. The narrow, winding roads of Cameron Highlands were clogged with cars, turning what should have been a leisurely drive into a tiresome situation. Imagine 5KM distance takes almost 4 hours to reach the destination. This traffic jam made it impossible to find some good crossings picture, because the traffic seemed endless.

Amidst the challenging weather and traffic conditions, I managed to squeeze in a brief visit to the Smokehouse Hotel. This charming colonial-style establishment exudes vintage charm and is a popular spot for photographers. However, I had a mere three hours at my disposal to take photos before the heavens opened up once more. Those precious moments were a race against time.

As I watched the raindrops fall outside the Smokehouse Hotel, I couldn't help but notice the unique charm it added to the surroundings. The misty, post-rain atmosphere created an enchanting ambiance, which I tried to capture with my camera in the limited time I had. Those quick clicks yielded some beautiful, albeit rushed, shots that I later enhanced through color correction in Lightroom and Photoshop.

As I packed my camera gear and headed back home, I couldn't agree the feeling of missed opportunities. I longed for a return visit, one with less traffic and better weather, where I could fully immerse myself in capturing the essence of this beautiful destination. So, until my next visit, I'll hold on to the hope of capturing Cameron Highlands in all its glory, with clear skies and open roads.
